Equality and Diversity Policy

Our aims

Make (Good) Trouble C.I.C. aims to create a safe and welcoming space for everyone. Our focus is on developing strong links and better communication between young people and parents, children and those in positions of responsibility and power. We strive to show the good in young people, something that is often lacking in depictions of children and young people in the media and in the general population.

Make (Good) Trouble believes strongly in challenging all forms of oppression including those based on age, race, ethnicity, nationality, creed, gender, sex, class, sexuality, gender reassignment, learning ability, physical impairment, mental illness, HIV status, occupation, income, wealth and unrelated criminal conviction. We aim to design our activities, services and decision-making processes specifically to encourage and support participation from people who face disadvantage in society, including women, BAMER (Black, Asian, Minority Ethnic and Refugee) people, disabled people, LGBTQ people, and people on low incomes.

Equality and Diversity at Make (Good) Trouble CIC

We consider that equality means breaking down barriers, eliminating discrimination and ensuring equal opportunities and access for all groups both in employment, and to goods and services.

We consider diversity to mean celebrating difference and valuing everyone. Each person is an individual with visible and non-visible differences and by respecting this everyone can feel valued for their contributions which is beneficial not only for the individual but for Make (Good) Trouble too.

We acknowledge that equality and diversity are not inter-changeable but inter-dependent. There can be no equality of opportunity if difference is not valued and harnessed.

The rights and obligations set out in this policy apply equally to all MGT employees and volunteers.

Our commitment

Every employee or volunteer is entitled to a working environment that promotes dignity, equality, and respect for all. Make (Good) Trouble will not tolerate any acts of unlawful or unfair discrimination (including harassment) committed against an employee, contractor, job applicant or visitor because of a protected characteristic:

  • age
  • sex
  • gender reassignment
  • marriage and civil partnership
  • pregnancy and maternity
  • race (including ethnic origin, colour, nationality and national origin);
  • disability
  • sexual orientation
  • religion and or belief

No form of intimidation, bullying or harassment will be tolerated.

If any team member feels that they have been discriminated against by Make (Good) Trouble or harassed at a workshop of event run by us, they should raise this with the management team who will investigate the complaint, taking views from all members involved (if the complaint is against a member of the management team, that person will not be part of conducting the investigation).

If the complaint is against the company as a whole, the management team will work to ensure that such discrimination is not repeated in the future and will inform all Make (Good) Trouble team members and Advisory Group how they propose to do this.

We will support people who feel they have been harassed or discriminated against and will not victimise or treat them less well because they have raised a complaint or concerns.
